The National Archive of Australia Redesign
redesigning the NAA government website to update the website to modern accessibility standards and, improving the design and information architecture for users
The Problem
The current NAA site is challenging to navigate without a pre-existing understanding of their services. To a new user not aware of their services, the purpose of NAA is unclear.
Inconsistent methods are used to present information chunks to the user which adds to the confusion when interacting with the site.
The Solution
The aim of this project was to access the currents NAA site heuristics, accessibility, and information architecture, and redesign the site for better user accessibility for the public.
This was achieved by updating the site to current industry standards and chunking information into government, school, and public categories, to reduce lostness.
My Role
As an individual project I was soley responsible to complete the double diamond UX/UI process to deliver a high-fidelity mobile and desktop prototype in 6 weeks.
Multiple methods of research were conducted to gain insight into the user and the NAA needs; meetings with stakeholders, heuristic evaluation, competitor research, and 4 rounds of user testing on information architecture, A/B tests, mobile and website prototypes to analyze and incorporate into each iteration.
I also used this project as an opportunity to develop my prototyping skills in Adobe XD, which added to the complexity of the project, but I was able to find resources to teach myself the skills needed and still deliver a high-quality product by the deadline.
